Something I wrote after a bout of homesickness
She was my hero when it came to killing those icky bugs,
a patient teacher, when it came to those tricky math sums

For all I remember, my mother was my world as I grew up,
taught me right from wrong, from weak and strong

She understood my limits, which were none,
and always told me it can never be done

To prove her wrong would give me the last push
make me an unstoppable machine- impossible to crush

Now she is watching her favorite program on the TV
her face set with a frown, the features set in heavy

Slowly, her face blooms with oh so many smiles
happy that her nest is temporarily filled, forgotten for now are those cursed miles

So she makes the best of it and cooks my favorite dishes
we spend the little time together-fulfilling her small, but precious wishes

As we part, she says that her cute boy is now a handsome man
I give her all my love in an embrace, and give her my hand

As I lay on my berth , I wince from the ice cold sting on my chest
where my mother’s tears made their place…parting from your loved ones is cruel, at it’s best

But as the night gets colder , I don’t reach for my blanket, let my emotions swarm
the love in that last embrace dear mother, kept me ever so…warm 
