A poem about a tragedy that occurs on a young man's birthday.
He was brought into this world
At exactly midnight
When tomorrow became today
He would live his life in a new light

His birthday was tomorrow
He never felt a feeling quite as good
He was turning 18
He was on his way to adulthood

He had a plan of his own will
So he ignored that of fate
But then his father was struck gravely ill
And his indifference began to abate

As he sat beside his father
His father had one thing left to say
He coughed, smiled, and in a final breathe whispered,
"Happy Birthday"

At exactly midnight
His father passed away
He finally started adulthood but
He never imagined it would begin this way
