A show of human deflection concerning pain and hurt.
I have always admired
the flower or the tree
that stands alone.

I have always been afraid of
loneliness.

Nothing around to show off their
single beauty --
hide the flaws.

Alone, to have their leaves
or petals critiqued.

When thirsty with soft petals or regal
branches bowed down to the elements --
alone to be laughed at.

No one to intertwine with,
to stop or hide the hurt...

Oh, I'm sorry,
this is not the way we started,
is it?
I am speaking of my own misery!

I have always admired
the flower or the tree
that stands alone....
