How depression rules the thinking mind and gobbles up the very essence of the individual.
Leviathan:

It rose from the deep,
my soul to keep.

Monstrous, black, raging beast,
held and tentatively kept,
within the mind at least,
where calmly awhile it slept.

Rocked by bubbling brainwaves,
it undulated, slithering lazily.
Imprisoned in synaptic graves,
so stealthily, so silently.

Until roughly, crudely shaken
from its deepest slumber,
rose the grim leviathan
and took the mind by thunder.

It took my gentle soul,
encased in velvet black
and left the ungainly troll
whose mouth hangs slack.
