"loving and losing" over "never loving at all"- free form reflection from a first timer
Built for destruction
At first, we were in agreement that is what it would be
That’s what  it had to be
Whatever it was that we made together- would eventually be destroyed
It wouldn’t be made to last and we shouldn’t get too attached.

We began with our materials and tools:
Bricks made of time together and mortar made of memories
Memories of sharing your street and my street
Your friends and my friends
Your home and mine
Our tools were our bodies-
Our hands, enlanced
My hands, around your waist
Your arms, on my shoulder
Our lips, embraced.

As we started to build- we saw the raw beauty of our creation
Something we had with no one
Set apart among scattered half-built facades with no depth- ours was different
Time was running out- our looming creation reminded  us of the decision we made
To make life in order to destroy it.

But could we do it?
Who would take the first swing?
To all the memories, the shared touches, the laughter, the light?
Who would deny the beauty of what we created? Who would be so cruel?

One day, believing it could stand forever-
The next, with whispered words- I did it. With one conversation I toppled it.

Now we stand in ruins.

Backs turned.
Rubble around us.
Silence.

One day
May beauty rise again
Beauty built with solid foundations
Materials that will last
Memories we don’t have to destroy and
Tools meant for the job.
This time, not built for destruction.
