A slave can be saved
"Get back here, little girl!" I ignored the voice of my master and kept running through the forest. The tears kept coming though.

Usually the forest helped calm me, but when my mom died it the beautiful trees, green leaves. and most of all the smell of fresh pine, stopped helping me.

Reaching my a white oak tree that had to be the tallest in the forest, I sat down and tried to stop crying but I couldn't. This time I couldn't keep my feelings locked up as I usually did. So I did the one thing that would keep me from the worst beating in my crappy existence. I died mental and emotionally.

When the guards came I went with them without a fight. They carried me back to my master.

"You worthless piece of scum," He sneered down at me. When I didn't react in the slightest he kicked me down. When I still didn't react he kept kicking. Finally he gave up. "Take it away," he said spitting on me. "I have no need for a slave whom does nothing."

The next thing I know I'm on a train, heading away from the state of Kentucky. I wondered where we were going but dared not speak for fear of a beating. We were auctioned at several states, and each time nobody took me. And each time I counted my blessings. At the last state, in Maryland, I was finally sold to a rich, and kind looking couple. On the way to their house they talked about random things. When we got there I stayed in the wagon waiting to be dragged by my hair to the kitchen so that I could get started on my chores. It came as a shock when they told me to get up and walk with them. They showed me where I was to sleep. It was a huge room, it had a huge bed, expensive covers, and a lovely looking dresser. The entire thing had to be at least 100,000 dollars. Finally, I couldn't help it; I was burning with curiosity. I asked the question no proper slave would ever dare ask.

"What are you doing?" I braced myself for the beating that was sure to come.

"Why? Setting you free of course! Silly girl!" The young mistress laughed as if I had said a joke.

"Let's go, Sweetie. She needs time to process this information. Before we go could you at least bless us your name, if you would?" The lord looked at me hopefully.

"Sarah. Why would you do this for me?"

"We have been trying to have a child for some time now, to no avail. So we decided to adopt a slave. And you are the lucky one." He spoke with such sorrow at not having his own child and truth, that I decided he might be telling the truth. Though I was still skeptical I decided to trust him. Praying that this wouldn't end badly I got up and walked over to him. Hesitating in case I was wrong I braced myself for a beating, and hugged him. I was surprised when he hugged me back and the woman hugged me from behind. It was true! They truly meant me no harm and just wanted a child! I was so happy to have a mom and dad again that I started crying. It was truly a dream come true!
