A poem about how an adult son feels about his father.
Son to Father

When you have harrowed what I’ve ploughed,

you will have made your old Dad proud.

When you achieve what I have done,

I’ll be pleased to call you son.

Dad, you have said this all my life.

You still do it now that I have a wife.

I never did produce an heir.

The ancestral line is stopped right there.

You wanted a son just like you,

an impossible task for me to do.

You have set an unreachable goal.

To live your life is not my role.

I have travelled along my own road

and sometimes carried a heavy load.

I live my life the best I can

and try to be a decent man.
