But the first real tragedy was on february 3rd 1959 when three rock n roll legends where killed in a plane crash while flying though a terrible snowstorm in clear lake Iowa all who was aboard was killed there where no survivors on that tragic night marked the first suffering lose in rock n roll the three rock legends that are forever known by this tragedy are richie valens born richard steven venenzuela a California native of Mexican descent who became a overnight teen idol and known for his hit Spanish song la bamba which later became a movie about the life of the teen idol with the same name. Along with valens who was killed was buddy holly born charles hardin holly in lubbock texas where there is a statue on the lubbock walk of fame in his honor as a hometown hero. Along with valens and holly was american disc jockey singer and songwriter named jiels perry jp for short richardson jr aka the big bopper the events leading up to there deaths both valens and holly played a big show at the legendary surf ballroom in clear lake valens was excited about getting to meet buddy holly and considered him a inspiration as a fellow musician and also considered it a great honor to play the same show as him. When the show was over the three rock legends where in a hurry to get to there next gig there was just one problem the heating system on there tour bus was broken and as a result of it buddy holly's drummer had got severe frostbite and had to be hospitalized and to make matters worse the big booper came down with the flu during the tour and gave up his seat on the plane to none other then country music superstar waylon jennings who have had a falling a frustrated holly over the accommodations of travel in which some heated words where used waylon jennings had said something foolish which would tie into the whole tragedy jennings had regretted his harmful words and would live with the guilt forever.
