Poem about depression and self harm
I close my eyes, I cannot see,
I close my ears, I cannot hear,
I do not breathe, I cannot smell,
But I cannot deny that they are there.
My scars.

I open my eyes and now I see,
I open my ears and now I hear,
I breathe in deep and now I smell,
My blood and tears and pain.
My scars.

I draw the blade across my skin,
I cannot see but I feel the sting.
I draw the blade across my skin,
I cannot hear but I am still crying.
I draw the blade across my skin.
I cannot smell but the blood’s still dripping.

I cannot deny the scars that remain.
Etched in my arm, like an irremovable stain.
Drops of my blood, drops of my pain.
Tears as hard and fast as rain.
I cannot deny the scars that remain.
