A joyful conflict
DESERT MOON

As we lay under the Desert moon on an a winters evening,
I’m gazing into the fire as the flames flicker
sending light to invade the shadows.

Your face as you sleep is the object of this invasion;
your features are splashed with light and dancing shadows
as the battle goes to and fro between light and darkness.

Such a lovely sight is this, this altercation
between light and dark on your face as you breathe so peacefully
in and out not even realizing the conflict that is going on

Underneath the flames are coals burning brightly whose beauty matches your own
whose intense heat matches my love for you,
which if not handled with respect and faith will burn

As I drift into sleep; my heart takes over for the flames,
casting heat that warms you, continuing the battle against the darkness,
my arms on fire, as they embrace you
Victory is mine
