a poem about being yourself and not following or imitating other people
If you don't like wearing dresses
Then wear what you feel like
Be it jeans and blouse
T-shirts and slacks

If you're religious
And people don't like you
Just smile at them
At least you have your faith

When you're being pressured
To have pre-marital sex
Just tell them "No"
You value yourself

If you're dark-skinned
And you want to change it
Say 'Everyone's beautiful,
Any color they are"

And what if you think you're ugly
God made you that way
Don't hide your face
You're perfect the way you are

Don't drink because everyone does it
You know better than that
It will only lead to something
You might regret later on

So what if you have full lips and big chest
Short legs or big hips?
Don't hope for them to disappear
Being perfect is boring

And if sporting a tattoo is cool
Everybody's saying so
Then don't ever get one
If you really don't want to

Why straighten your curls
To have 'commercial-straight' locks
It's what you've been given
Be proud, it's what you have

Never take drugs
Or decide to experiment
It will only wreck your body
And ruin you for life

If you're not skinny
Like those models on TV
So what? You've got curves
And meat under your bones

And remember most of all
Celebrate your flaws
Be your own person
Don't be a slave to conformity
