Atnys and Nicolette dance for the first time..........
A crisp clean breeze drifted along the building, causing a blind spot from its embrace near the door to the building. Dimly lit by the florescent bulbs within. Nicolette glided across the concrete pathway from her Honda civic, leaving in her wake a melodramatic air. Entering the building and exiting out the adjacent door into the courtyard, the lights like fireflies almost dancing along with the crimson petals of the poinsettias. Atnys Nikam froze at her dramatic entrance.
Her short stylish hair and form fitting midnight blue halter-top dress caressed her curves and relived its few overlaying ruffles halting around her thighs. Returning to reality around him Atnys followed her through the crowd with an ever-watchful eye. He strode about with his Maxine tuxedo embracing his broad shoulders, trying to attract her attention like a peacock fanning his tail.
Her boyfriend left her only days before and socializing with her friends at the dance only seemed to Band-Aid the situation. Feeling like her heart would stall and fall to its death near the intestines when the song, wonderful tonight by Eric Clapton, melodically swayed its slow rhythm across the crowd. She quickly maneuvered her way to a quiet corner, silently following her Atnys walked up behind the saddened beauty.
Feeling a tap upon her shoulder she spun to see the 5’ 11’’ boy. Her emerald eyes met his amberous ones, and lingered for what seemed like an eternity in their own little word. The term love at first sight does not apply as much as a feeling of instantaneous comfort and sense of longing when their gazes intertwined between them. “ May I have this dance?” he echoed softly, extending his hand into the still air. She looked through the remnants of tears and accepted his gracious offer. Whisking her in his arms Atnys pulled her into the beat of the song. The universe seemed to trail after their movements and in the glittering night sky above the stars seemed to leap from the quarters and cascaded down to greet to the two lovers below.
