This poem outlines my experience with depression over the last few years.
Locked in a cell of your own despair,
Without any hope or reason to care.
You grab the bars and cry for help,
But nobody can hear you but yourself.

A tornado rips through your throbbing head,
Tearing all your positive thoughts into shreds,
Leaving behind all your dreams destroyed,
As only a lifeless shell remains, completely void.

Some people scream, while others cry,
And then there’s the few who want to die.
The pain, the anger, the broken trust,
The search for an escape becomes a must.

Like convicts imprisoned by bars and chains,
The fight to flee only leaves you drained.
Antidepressants and exercise,
Do they think that these will calm your cries?

They say you have to fight your way back,
But how can you manage to find the right track?
Staying unwell is easy, yet so hard to endure,
Oh, why can’t depression be easy to cure?
