A young girl thinks her fiance didn't make it out of the war alive.
Ali is waiting for her fiancĂ© to come back home from the war. He has been gone for almost a year. She is staring off into the distance to see if she can see him coming down the road from the bus stop. She misses him dearly, and writes to him every day to let him know that she is still there waiting for him. Ali feels as if he will never return home to her safe. She also feels in the bottom of her heart that she will always be with him and that her love for Jack will keep him fighting. She doesn’t know what she would do if she ever lost him. Jack is her one and only love and she would stand there waiting for him for the rest of her life and longer if she had to. Ali is so in love with him she can’t wait to have him as her husband. She keeps the house clean and his magazines, books, and clothes in the same place. Ali always looks at his picture and wonders if that is the only way she will ever see him in their house. As each day passes Ali starts to get worried and think if she will ever get to tell him that she loves him one last time before she has to let him go. One morning as she was setting the table for just her, she saw someone coming up the street in an army uniform. Just when she thought that he had given up, he stayed strong and fought for his life on earth and came back her. As she stepped outside he sat his bag on the ground and she went running into his arms and hugged him until he picked his bag up and her and carried them both in the house to the bedroom. That night they stayed up talking about the future that they now have together and just lay in each other’s arms thanking god that he is safe and still with her.
