A "family" is now on their own due to a group who is out to kill them.
There’s an old saying my mother used to tell me. It’s been passed down each generation but this is where it will end. Whenever I was feeling down or unwanted my mother would always tell me “Everyone has a purpose in life and all you can do is wait in the shadows until it’s your turn to shine.”It’s basically saying it may not seem like it but everyone has their own role to play in life. You may lie in the shadows for a while but someday you’ll be the one in the spotlight.

This is the saying that helped me make it through my short, adventurous life. It will always be there in my mind when I need it. Now though, it isn’t my mother who tells it to me, I’m the one who tells it to myself. I have to rely on myself to remember everything that was taken away from me. My family and friends, all of them are gone.

Well, not entirely. There’s my older brother Zack who’s 19 years old. His girlfriend, Hikari, acts like my older sister. She’s a year younger than Zack. Then there’s Kai who’s also like an older brother. He’s the oldest in our “family” at 21 years old. We consider ourselves family because we’re so close. They are at least. I’ve drifted away from them after the incident. Last but not least, Shadow. He’s been the family pet for centuries now. He and I have a special attachment so if I die, so does he. Sometimes I feel like he’s the only one who gets me. The cool part is he can talk.

I wasn’t always isolating myself from others. I used to be a hot-headed, stubborn brat. I would never back down from a good fight. Ever since the incident, I’ve secluded myself from interacting with others. I’m scared of getting close to others because I know what would happen to them eventually.

It’s because I was the one that was chosen that changed who I am today. It’s because of a long lost memory that was rediscovered changed my life forever.
