Loosing a very good and trust worthy friend' Hard to come by these days.
FRIEND

What is it friend’ what are you thinking’

You seem so far’ your thoughts are deep,

So many things we’ve’ done together,

Secrets’ to the grave we’ll keep.

There were many of us at one time,

When life was full of fun,

Our autumn came so quickly,

All them years’ where have they gone!

Now there’s just the two of us,

Of the gang that was before,

Somehow I feel their presence,

As if they’ve opened a secret door.

The last time we spoke together,

You didn’t look so well,

You gave a little smile’

But you knew’ I could tell.

I tried to comfort you,

I searched for what to say,

The truth I couldn’t tell you,

I lied to you that day.

Although I lied’ you weren’t fooled,

You knew your time was near,

The doctor said, you hadn’t long,

I’m loosing my friend I fear’

When they took you in the ambulance,

It was then’ I called out your name,

I shouted’ GRIFF! Can you hear me?’

You were still’ no answer came.

The ambulance went’- then came to a stop!

Something wrong! I heard myself say,

Someone said; he’s had a seizure’

Then added; he’s passed away!

How I felt when I heard those words,

I was glad you were no longer in pain,

But deep inside I felt all alone’

With an emptiness! I can’t explain!

My time will come at a later date,

Till then I’ll just carry on,

That secret door will open again,

Then close‘… -and I’ll be gone!
