why did we choose this imperfect world?
“Surely you will not die.”

So we stuff ourselves.
What’s this? Shame. We run and hide.
God swiftly kicks us out of Paradise.

We discover sex. Nice.
We develop hunger.
Where is all the food to eat?
Adam learns how to hunt. I vomit.
He learns it from the animals.
“It won’t be easy anymore,” we tell each other.
It’s all about survival now.

We wander,
searching for food and shelter.
Our feet hurt. I feel sick.
We have to be careful to avoid the predators.
They glare at us angrily.
Their prey just stare at us with sadness.
“They know,” I say.
Adam nods. He still blames me. We fight.
Those poor animals. We can’t communicate anymore.
But I understand this one question from them,
“Why did you choose this imperfect world?”

Heat. Cold.
I’m getting … fat.
It’s hard to move anymore.
Time moves slowly. And quickly.
It’s here.

Pain, pain, pain, pain.
PAIN,
PAIN,
PAIN,
PAIN.
SCREAM!!!

It’s over.
Crying.
“He is perfect,” I say.
Adam looks at me, frowning. “No, not quite.”
Crying.

We continue to wander.
Life is hard.
Sometimes it’s nice.

The worst moment yet is the murder.
Abel is gone. Grief.
We glare at Cain. “Why?”
He stares back at us.
“Why did you choose this imperfect world?”
Guilt.
Death is all around us. We face it in the future.
We already are.

He lied.
