I am a great fan of author, Virginia Woolf. I found her death by drowning most haunting.
Fear Not, Virginia

Take my hand, Virginia and lead me to the sea,
Our pockets filled with rocks and gravel, weights as heavy as our souls.
The waves besiege our frigid bodies, tugging and pulling us
to our destined sanctuary.
You've released my hand, Virginia!
Take hold once more!
You pay no heed.
You are caught in the rapture of the vortex,
Down, down into the peace of nothingness.
I empty my pockets of the load I carry,
The sea now calm, no longer beckoning.
Fear not, Virginia!
The tide will soon again appear, entangling its watery
tentacles around my already drowned marrow.
Carry me and deliver me to the abysmal seabed where my
final absolution awaits.
