A free verse poem

Daddy smelled pretty that day.
The same day that Mommy cried.
I was only four years old the day
that I made dinner for me and my sister.

I could hear them yelling.
I heard my mommy screaming and crying.
My sister and I were scared.
We became silent.
What did I do wrong?

My Mommy ran into the kitchen.
Her shirt was torn. She had blood on her ear.
She told us to get out of the house.
Daddy followed and shoved us out.

We could hear them from outside.
I grew weary of listening to the screaming.
Why couldn't they stop yelling?
I want to tell them, "I didn't mean it.
I'm sorry. I will fix it, whatever it is".

Daddy opened the door, they were still yelling.
He walked out, bag in hand.
Mommy's face was red and messy.
He did not even say goodbye.

What did I do wrong that day that mommy cried?
What did I do wrong when daddy left and never returned?
What did I do wrong that day I made dinner for me and my sister?
What did I do wrong that day when daddy smelled pretty?
