A dark story with a bitter ending...

Twins of Yellow

In an olden kingdom during the times of strife, the queen bore a set of twins of priceless beauty. A girl and a boy, both born with marvelous blonde hair and brilliant blue eyes, they were the pearls of the king. The church’s bell tolled their coming on the moment of sunrise. The blooming daffodils greeted the twins with their bright yellow color, matching their blonde hair. Unlike the pure children, the land they live in is a place of sin and darkness. The people are miserable and plagued with thieves and killers. Tensions were high as even the elite fear for their lives.

The queen soon died and left the king a sad and disturbed man. The council no longer wished for him to become their ruler and agreed to have him assassinated and be replaced by his daughter. The twins were separated by the nobles with the girl taken into court and lived a life of luxury as she awaits her time to become the new Queen, while her brother was taken in by a nobleman who was a servant of the late King. He was trained to become a servant of his twin sister and lived a life of hardship and servitude.

Years later, the girl of great beauty, now fourteen years of age, danced on the world’s stage as the new Queen of her kingdom. The people were hopeful that their new leader will lead them from the discord their home has been suffering from. Her brother came to her to become her chamberlain. A boy of many talents, he pledge loyalty to his twin sister and promised to be her faithful servant to the very end.

The young queen was a vein and prideful girl. Her palace filled with exotic and luxurious things that were enough to drain the kingdom’s treasury. She taxed her people to the hilt and caused many to be harbor hatred. She ruled with an iron fist. Anyone who refused her will was immediately put to the sword. The people feared for their lives and suffered through terrible adversity while their queen, who was supposed to be their hope of a better future, spoiled herself with a very luxurious lifestyle.

The chamberlain was sent into a neighboring country to accomplish some errands. He ran into a magnificent girl with emerald green eyes. He fell in love at first sight at the youthful girl but hid his affection. His queen sister was in love with the king of the kingdom he was in. However, the king she longed for was engaged with a girl whom his brother fell for. She was a princess of another kingdom but despite this, the queen wanted her dead. Her twin brother complied with her wishes and assassinated the princess, even though he was in love with her.

A war erupted between the two kingdoms. It was dubbed, The Green War, in honor of the fallen princess. The war took a crippling toll on the young queen’s kingdom while her people still suffer from her abusive rule. The queen’s army lost in the war and the people rebelled. Fear transformed into rage as chaos spread throughout the kingdom. The rebellion was led by a knight of crimson who attacked the queen’s palace with a furious mob in the dead of night. All of the queen’s servants flee save for one, her twin brother.

He told his sister that he will take over for her and not to worry that they look exactly the same. He gave her his spare clothes and pleaded for her to run and never come back. He is now the queen and awaited the angry people of the land. He believed that if his sister was truly evil, then was the same for they have the same blood in their veins. The mob soon broke in and captured the queen, not knowing that it was her twin brother.

The people gave her no sympathy and were eager to execute her as retribution for her sins. Dawn soon came as a guillotine stood near a church. The fields were alive with blooming daffodils, much like those from the birth of the twins. Mobs of men and women were riled into a vicious frenzy as their ruler was escorted to the malicious contraption. Among the mob was the real queen, she could not bear to leave her brother in his final moments. He noticed her sister and gave her a loving smile. The bell of the church tolled, marking the time of his death. He said to her sister, “Goodbye” before the swift blade ends his life.

The queen was forever known as a “Daughter of Evil” and “The Queen of Yellow” by her people and made a song to forever remember the darkest days of her kingdom. They never knew about her unsung hero, her twin brother who sacrificed himself for his beloved twin sister. One thing is for certain, he is never evil because of his unrequited love for his sister.

(Author's Note: This is an adaptation from a pair of Japanese songs, "Daughter of Evil" and "Servant of Evil". I recommend that you should try to listen to these. (There are English versions.) Try typing "*name of song* Enn* on the search engine in youtube/google. I personally think that the originals are MUCH better xD)
