Living life without a map after childhood/situational trauma and learning to trust again.
My GPS is scrambled

My GPS is scrambled, or maybe,
I was given the wrong CD at the dealership.

All my life, people have tried
to direct me this way or that.
Here's the problem.
What is right, to me looks left.
What is up, looks down.
The land you speak of
looks to me a vast and deep ocean.
The city you crave for excitement
appears a wild and dangourous terrain
with duststorms and scorpions.

Forgive me please if I don't trust
your interpretation of my map,
your kind offer of directions.

Its not that I wish to remain lost.
It's just...

Well, let me put it this way.
Would you take a step
off the roof of a skyscraper
if I told you that what you thought
was empty air and nothingness
was really a concrete sidewalk?

I didn't think so.
