The poem is about the transition we all go through in school
When I looked at my school for the first time,
there were mysteries of all kinds in my mind.
Was it a place where children were taught ABCD,
or a place where they were beaten if turned naughty.

I walked my first steps into the school,
with legs shaking and heart trembling.
My eyes were drowned in tears of fear,
as if a monster was somewhere near.

My tears were suddenly brushed away,
by an angel standing in my way.
I walked straight into her open arms,
which closed upon me in an embrace so warm.

She was enchanting in every way,
was she a fairy from the fairy tale.
She smiled and took me to a room,
she was the teacher of pupils in the room.

Years passed and I grew,
from the bud of innocence into the flower of adolescence.

Today when in my flowering youth,
I look for the last time at my school.
Oh! my eyes are filled with tears,
and there she again rubs them clear.

I look at my teacher's angel like face,
with strokes of white in her hair.
She smiles and embraces me with her caressing arms,
the arms which have held me for years so long.

She looks at me with a smile so rare,
and tells me to hold the torch of school forever.
I look up to see tears in her eyes,
but then with an affectionate gesture, she bids me goodbye.

I walk my last steps out of school,
with all mysteries solved and fears cooled.
Suddenly I remember my first day in school,
but those trembling steps are today on a steady move.
