A variant of a popular Langston Hughes poem.
What happens to a dream consumed?

Does it abort itself?

Like a prematurely developed foetus?

Or does it flourish like the radiant rose in the morning garden?

And then spread its fragrance outwardly abroad?

Does it germinate gently like the open bean pod?

Or burst and overflow its banks

Like the exhausted Niger valley?

Maybe it might just have paused in anticipation

Like an expectant world celebrated athlete

Waiting for the realization of a silver bronze medal
.
Or is it just in wait for a sunny but rainy day?

To give life to all that has been promised?

But whatever the situation, all that’s certain is

We all should hold fast to dreams

As they sustain life, ideas and hope for future prospects.
