Poll Question:
Drita ran away from her broken home in Louisville, Kentucky when she was eight years old. She became a nomad on her own moving from place to place. Then, a couple of months after she ran away, she found a frantic screaming baby in an abandoned warehouse. Not wanting to leave her alone, Drita took her. She wanted to turn the baby in, but she was afraid that she would have to go back home. So she named the African American baby Promise and took her along. Throughout The book, they go on adventures together, experience hardships, terrifying moments, happiness, love, and reality while developing their strong mother-daughter/sisterhood bond for over 17 years.
