a dark poem
Silence, piercing, shrieking quiet
Even the moaning wing held its breath
The forest, its alluring serenity
Purity, purity of peace

The sun, still deep in slumber
Below the chilled earth
The misty fog wraps the earth in a frozen blanket
The moon’s cold gaze
Pierce the heart of the dark abyss

Then, they begin to stir
Thousands, hundreds of tiny bodies,
Delicate and warm,
Take a blind leap of faith into
The embracing darkness

As they dance across the frost bitten morning,
They create a being
Pulsing and breathing,
The menacing shadow
Takes flight into the icy kiss of the moon

After the hunt,
The being returns,
With its task complete.
It perishes and shatters into
One thousand pieces

In the damp abode,
Sweat drips from the very air,
Deafening calls,
Unity a stranger to man

In the squall of sounds,
A creature lurks, cold and sly,
Slithers, creeps, crawls
Up to the slumber place,
Of the blind

Entwing, embracing….
With venomous kisses,
Wings drive to the ground,
Screaming, pleading for mercy,
But it is consumed by the grasping abyss

Although the crime is committed,
The being lives on,
A new being is embodied,
Waiting to take wing,
Into the embrace of the icy deathly quiet dawn.
