A poem about reaching a place in my life where the pain of the past is tolerable.

Wise am I
The wanting stranger
Once desperate with anger
No longer
An animal with no need of a cage
A creature spent of its desire to feast
My appetite has been met
My gut aches under the weight
Of being so completely full
A good hurt fills my chest
A once thought empty cavity
Is brimming beyond capacity
My mind, chemicals defined
Brilliance made relevant
Within such a finite space and time
I see everything and everyone
Past, present, and future
As photorealist copies of who
And what they no longer are
Like a rolodex of images stored
Easily called back up
Remembered
And if need be ignored
I will never truly forget
The price of who I am
Or what it cost for me to get here
A good hurt vibrates my nerves
Stingingly real in every possible way
I have never been numb
One to always feel everything
In full, glorious detail
I know more than most
More than anyone ever should
Wise am I
The wanting stranger
Once desperate with anger
No longer
A good hurt fills my chest
And barrels through my mind
Expressing myself through words
Has become my way to deal
With how it is to feel
All that I feel and all that I know
Such a good hurt is mine…
