A poem for those who feel warmth in the cold.
The beauty of snow lays in its very nature.
It speaks of the desire of this world
to freeze forever a moment of time,
with all of the faults and aggressions
that might come to find peace in stillness
and allow us to uncover greater truths
than we will discover with all of our days combined.

We have but a hiccup of existence
to embrace all that we have
before time progresses forward,
leaving us to a page of history.

Do not be so eager for change.
Do not be so quick to ignore.
However much there is to see in this world,
I beg you, do not overlook the world at your feet.
Men have come and gone
having seen a solitary corner of the world
and wished only that they could stop time
and live forever in a single moment,
no matter how imperfect.

I bear no hatred of the future.
One day it will feed the dreams of our children,
just as we have been fed before,
but I cannot take for granted
everything that I was given
on the day of my birth
and pretend to have learned of everything that lays
buried beneath winter’s snowscape.
