Do not speak
Silence you must scream
Back in your head
Keep your words my friend
No one is interested
Most of all a man like me
I am tired of my own plight
I have little time for yours
These days everyone is a poet
A jester upon a massive stage
Supported by the smallest of audience
Fools and heretics alike
All that we have to say
Could fit on the head of a pin
That is on top of a head of a pin
Infinite wisdom means nothing
Experience has become insignificant
All that matters now
Is just a flash in the pan
A quick little quirp
A sound bite for the masses
Such pathological asses
Interested they seem
As long as every sentence
That contains “me”
Is somehow about them
Do not speak
Words are the only thing
They will remain long after
You and I are gone
They will stand the test of time
They will mean something to someone
Present company excluded of course
Introspection has always been cyclical
Poets will someday not be seen
As bleeding hearts but rather
Pillars of experience and wisdom
In this world full of ignoramuses
All that we have is each other
So pick up your proverbial pen
And shut up my friend
Do not speak
No one is listening
Instead write out what you wish
To be heard then place it upon a shelf
Leave it there until the day
When people again feel the need
To learn from those of us
Who have been through hell
And have lived to express it
Via the poems we write
What life is all about
And what it means to be alive
May have become lost
To those presently alive
But I can assure you
That will not always be the case
Don’t speak my friend
Back in your head
Keep your words
Work on their mass appeal
Until such appeal returns
Until all truth
Can no longer be ignored…
