The fear of going outside
The old man sits in his chair, as he's done for many years,
He never leaves his house, his body filled with fears.

His wife had passed away, almost 20 years before,
And since then, the old man, hasn't walked out the front door.

His groceries got delivered, community was good,
Bus changed the route to get his kids, school understood.

He missed his kids growing up, recitals and sports games,
Never got to know their friends, only heard their names.

His kids got a little older, his boy and his girl,
They helped him with his life, til they left to see the world.

Now his daughter shows up at the house, and what she says is scary,
"Will you walk me down the aisle? its time, I'm gonna marry"

"I booked the wedding not far from here, just a block up the road",
"Please daddy, for me", he'd have to leave his abode.

He decides he has to do it, has to give her away,
So now he gathers up the courage, on her wedding day.

He takes out his only suit, hasn't been worn for many years,
He polishes his shoes, holding in his tears.

He looks out the window, at the world zipping by,
Puts on his hat, grabs his cane, then begins to cry.

Takes a deep breath, walks outside, thinks why did I fuss,
Walks down the stairs, onto the road, gets killed by the school bus.
