Sometimes my dreams are not my own.
Lying wrapped in blankets,

My breathing slows.

My companion tells me that it stops.

Then my soul pours from my body.

I leave it lying still

And growing cold.

I fly through the roof

And into the night sky.

For a time I just fly,

Away from the city,

Away from the hate.

Out into the peaceful fields.

My companion stirs

And I feel a tug towards my body.

I ignore it,

But now I know my time is limited.

Reluctantly I fly towards civilization again.

I visit the people from my past,

The ones that have moved on from me.

Some are still trapped in their prisons,

Some are happy and free.

None of them miss me.

Some of them are sleeping,

I enter their dreams.

I fight monsters,

I fight demons,

I save their life,

Always as a nameless, faceless warrior.

My companion stirs again.

My time is almost up.

Another dreamer saved,

I sheathe my sword,

And I let go.

Back into the night,

My soul flies as if pulled by a rope.

Through the roof now I can hear my companion's alarm.

With a violent blow my soul and body collide

And I wake my companion.

My body feels the beatings of the night,

Exhaustion overwhelms me.

Tonight I hope my soul stays to sleep with me.

Tonight I hope the dreams will be mine.
