These hands
This man
All beast
All creature
Ruthless teacher
Incredulous lessons
That must be taught
That must be understood
Clear and precise
Without an ounce of doubt
I’ve done a lot
More than most
Unafraid I seem
Reality screams
Bruised and scarred
Both skin and heart
I wish I could change
Take all of it back
Deep inside
But the closer I get
The further away
I always seem
God above
Will not forgive
Darkness below
Will not embrace me
I am on my own
I am not one of the flock
I have no desire to be
I can’t get past God’s ways
I can’t allow myself
To forget the past
Back when I was innocent
Under his thumb I lived
Under his weight I fought
Survival came at a price
A skeptical conclusion
With regard to such an illusion
I will never be able
I will never allow my heart
To feel anything but coldness
I have always been
And always will be
Taking fight
That is just my way
There is no right
Only wrong
I do what I can
What I am sure I must
My soul is not part
Of what is considered
Survival is my only priority
Certainly when I am dead
I may pay for such arrogance
Then again, I may not
Either way concerns me none
Living and surviving for me
Are one and the same
Taking fight
Is my only way
How I continue to survive
When I otherwise wouldn’t…
