This is a little information on depression. If you or a friend is depressed.
There are different kinds of depression. Things can go from the regular everyday downs to deep, emotional sadness. Here are some sorts of depression:

Major Depressive Disorder- Major Depressive Disorder is characterized by a combination of symptoms that interfere with a person's ability to work, sleep, study, eat, and enjoy once-pleasurable activities.

Chronic Depression- Chronic Depression, or Dysthymia, is characterized by a long-term (two years or more) depressed mood.

Atypical Depression- Regular -- or "typical" -- depression, on the other hand, tends to be marked by pervasive sadness and a pattern of loss of appetite and difficulty fall or staying asleep.

Bipolar Depression- Bipolar disorder -- sometimes referred to as manic depression -- is a complex mood disorder that alternates between periods of clinical depression and times of extreme elation or mania. There are two subtypes of bipolar disorder: bipolar I and bipolar II.

With bipolar I disorder, patients have a history of at least one manic episode with or without major depressive episodes.

With bipolar II disorder, patients have a history of at least one episode of major depression and at least one hypomanic (mildly elated) episode.

If your friend has threatened to commit suicide in a message or note, contact a counselor or trusted adult right away. The risk cannot be made. Have that friend get help. However, if you are depressed, you can also seek help. Tell a trusted adult, your favorite teacher, your parents, a guidance counselor, etc. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. A strategy is to think about something you're excited for in the future. Keep that thought in your head. Soon you'll think to yourself, "Hmm, I wanna live to see that day." Simple as that. Life is too short to be unhappy. Think of how lucky you are to be you. Some kids dream of having your life.

Suicide has been around for thousands of years. People back then believed suicide as a sin, and refused to bury suicide victims in holy cemeteries. People become depressed for many different reasons. You may be depressed because you're bullied, you don't like the way you look, parents' divorce, or perhaps a break up with a lover. People often feel hopeless and/or worthless. But don't! Because you matter to many, many people. Don't let people bring you down. Think of all the friends you have, how lucky they are to have you!

Maybe you aren't very popular at your school, other people must be where you are as well. Be friends with them, don't make them feel alone. The more friends you have, the happier you'll be. Each and every one of your friends and family members love you. Don't feel unloved. If there's hope, make the call. You WILL get through this. If you're feeling sad, talk to your parent(s). It isn't smart not to. If you don't, you aren't asking to be well again. If you just get help, your life would be so much easier! People DO understand. maybe they've been through that dark hole before. They can help you get out. Listen to some music, invite over a couple of friends, party like there's no tomorrow!
