Poem detailing family members view of birthday party
The Good Life

The dawn breaks through my window

drawing me out of my bed

No need to cover my nakedness

I know just where I must head

Down the hall to the kitchen

wanting breakfast, but waiting instead

Balloons, streamers and packages

I’m thinking “I wish I were dead”

All too soon a house full of boys

are screaming for cake to be fed

I watch as the monsters are seated

and wait for what’s surely ahead

My mouth begins to water

but I know I must keep my stead

When cake goes crashing onto the floor

I jump up and quickly I sped

I scarf down the cake within seconds

no signs of a mess can be read

I bask in the glow of goodness

with my owner patting my head.
