Tribute to children's death at Sandy Hook. Equally applicable whenever a child is killed.
Behold those merry peals of laughter
Mercilessly forbidden to ring hereafter
That family and friends will no longer hear
Even as time ushers in the New Year

Behold those dreams ever so young
Future visions unexplored and unsung
They died a thousand untimely deaths
Now buried along with their last breaths

Behold the premature youth, wasted at what cost
A leader or a scientist, who knows what the world lost
On humanity dawns the painful realization
That they were the hope of an entire civilization

But now a million prayers sent up the skies
With grieving hearts and tearful eyes
Alas! Will not bring them back
A stark reminder of all things humans lack

From killing for food to killing without a reason
Our own little ones victimized by this treason
Are human brains on a flight of devolution?
As we lose the Essence of our Evolution
