wanting someone that doesn't want you in return
I wish I could pick you up and lock you in a cage,
like a beautiful bird.
That way, you could be mine forever.
I would admire you and adore you,
whilst I perused over some books
and wrote down some lines.
You could sing to me, your heavenly tune
filling an otherwise empty room.

I wish we were a painting,
our faces recaptured by oil
fine perfection in a thick gold frame on someone's wall,
completing the entire room.
We would be smiling forever,
gleaming with picture perfect happiness
blissfully unaware of all the wrong doings in the world -
our own secluded bubble.

I wish we were trapped on an island out to sea.
We would be the only ones,
and you would have to love me,
because we'd grow close in the desperation of our situation.
We would be hungry,
but we'd find a way to make things alright.
We would survive together.

I wish we were the main characters in a story.
You could be the Prince Charming,
and for once,
you would be pursuing me.
I would be helpless and weak,
in desperate need of rescuing -
like I am now.
Readers would fall in love with all we stood for,
and they would smile with us during our happily ever after.

But I wish, more than anything,
that I didn't have to wish for these things,
for me to be able to call you mine.
