For you
These words
Absolute truth
A tiny prayer
Of kindness
And clarity
The duality of us
Will be spared
Placed upon a shelf
Set out of reach
Allowing me to forget
If only for a moment
All that you did
Back when I
Was your precious kid
I have come to forgive
Come to let you go
Into death’s deep hole
God above has you now
What remains beneath
Is all that you use to be
No longer impossible you seem
I can finally breathe
I am ready to make peace
I am here to set you truly free
But be assured
That such requited suffrage
Is more for me than you
I need to find my own peace
My own balance in a world
That for all of my life
Has been nothing but in shambles
I need to let you go
So that I can move on
When you were alive
The distance between us thrived
Now that you are dead
I am here within a few steps
A solemn closeness
That you and I once shared
Has somehow returned
This tiny prayer if for you
When I’m done
Never again will I stand here
Under any moon or sun
Under any equal sky shared
I will be free to move on
And so will you be
Mother of this life
Person who bred me every right
I forgive you for all that was done
I hold no anger in my heart
You did what you could
And sadly what you felt you must
The price of such decisions
Were once shared by us both
No longer is that the case
You are free of such weight
I will carry any load that remains
I will face this place most alone
Seemingly your death
Has changed nothing
Except for one important thing
That for many years was overlooked
Excused or deemed impossible
Our ability to come back together
To find an end and forgiveness
Between us, mother to son
For you
These words
Absolute truth
A tiny prayer
Of kindness
And clarity
I am sure
That you can hear me
I know that you understand
In Heaven we will again
Be as we were and not as we became
I forgive you just as I forgive myself
May God have mercy on your soul
As well as mine
Rest in peace mother of this life
Your pain is done
Your mistakes forgiven
God has you now
In his hands you will find relief
For a time I will remain
In this world without you
I will find a way to be
Never again will I hold
Another bad feeling in my heart
For you, with regard to us…
