an English Quintain about shadows
Ghost's Linger

Ghosts linger in the darkening air,
where the very silence slumber,
shadows of you and I there
my hopes and dreams encumber
for the silent voice chose our number.

Downward the starry tapers burn,
sinks soft the waning sand.
I follow the shadow for I still yearn
the touch of your loving hand
for my future is bland without my man.

At morn and even shades are longest,
at noon they are or short or none.
How shall I cope for I am not the strongest
and our life together had just begun
and now my burden is to be just one.

Our honeymoon started in pleasure
then we crossed the sands to the bridge.
One step and you fell in measure
from that sad and ragged ridge.
Our life together abridged.

Into the rushing waters you went
splashing forth as I tried to save you,
all that lingered was your scent
as my fears like a phantom grew.
Fiercely I wished time would undue.

Across the walls come the shadow
of unspeakable intimidation.
How I wish life would foreshadow.
You will always be kept in adoration.
I must move forth in anticipation
