A Reluctant Goodbye
ONE FINAL FAVOR

Cradle me now, allow my fading heart to weep,
Inside your tender, loving arms.
Engulf me in your blanket warmth.
Let sadness not delay this gift of sleep.

Teach me how to cry with dignity and peace.
Sheltered by your caring heart.
Stand firmly now instead of me.
And caress again my furrowed brow.

Touch down these tired eyes, bring forth the black,
And kiss me with your special, comfort kisses.
That chase away the blinding pain,
Then lay me naked on calm waters.

Cast me off upon your breath,
So that I can float away forever.
To fade so far away from this,
Our wrenching last farewell.

Mine is now to live within eternity,
Yours, to be content that we had loved.
