a poem about a flower and a girl
Three Red Hearts

The light shone from her eyes
when she saw the nice surprise
three red hearts in a row
gazing where the lilies grow.

All tied  onto a string
gently floating as if on wings
what a delightful Spring
so she thought.

She took the hearts into the abode.
Her Mother raised her voice then slowed
"Do you know what flowers those are Billy Joe?"
"No, I just liked them."

Slowly the Mother took the flower apart.
Then she proceeded with the story.
"There once was a Prince who was in love.
He bought her gifts like these two pink bunnies."
The two outer pink petals became them.

"The princess said she did not love him.
So he brought her beautiful dangling earrings."
Her Mother held up two dangling portions of the flower.
"The princess paid no attention. So the prince took
the dagger and killed himself. When this happened
the Princess declared her heart would bleed forever.
The flower's name is The Bleeding Heart."
