This came to me whilst watching my darling orphaned kitten, Anouk.
The Necessary Cat

Fur of grey and eyes of green

footsteps light with stealth unseen

missing nothing, eyesight keen

came into our house, as queen

Took control and made the rules

bound us as such happy fools

purring love your only tools

rich warmth rare as precious jewels

What of life before, we say

work and eat and sleep and play

another ordinary day

same old, same old, same old grey

Without permission, in you stride

we cannot keep you, then we lied,

mustn't love you, how we tried

there's no room for a cat we sighed

And now you stay, we serve you well

what is your bidding, oh queen do tell

powerless we are, unable to act

for you are now necessary, cat.
