My Query Letter for my novel, "Before it All."
Dear judges of the Hook us! Contest,

Doctor Chris Banters was just a shy scientist utterly content with his life, and on the brink of discovering a successful solution for artificial intelligence. However, the gluttonous desire for power amongst rivaling underground agencies seeking out his formula lead to the ultimate demise of Chris’s cushy life. After watching his wife get shot right before his eyes, Chris unconsciously undergoes a life-threatening procedure that metamorphoses him into an immortal being using his formula for spontaneous regeneration. Violently livid and quite possibly indestructible, Chris breaks out of the confinement he was placed in by the agency he worked with on his project of finalizing a nearly perfect form of artificial intelligence.
While suffering through extremely realistic dream sequences that drive him even madder, Chris seeks out the men that killed his wife. While on his journey of finding them, he meets interesting people in a village that reviled the use of any form of technology. He speaks with a woman who tells of a man that will use his gifts to save them from technology, and that they will know when he comes. Chris realizes that somehow the woman was talking about him, but shaking off the confusion, he presses on in his state of insanity.
Finally, Chris finds the men with help of one of the doctors that made him immortal. He is just about to kill them when he sees his wife, Abigail, who goes on to prove that she isn’t a fake and that they aren’t in possession of the formulas he concocted for life-like androids; Chris is exceptionally overjoyed while immensely confused. She reveals that she was working with these men and that they simply kidnapped her and used some of her work against her. After Chris and Abigail figure out how to escape and defeat “the enemy,” Chris unknowingly fulfills the prophecy the old villager told him about. He becomes a man in which “we all know and love,” and every reader will know whom he is and will be shocked by the realization.
This book is a unique piece of work and started out as an intriguing idea in my mind about a well-known character in history. After taking a scientific spin on the subject, I came up with what this story consists of. Thank you for considering my work—it is very greatly appreciated. I have a poetry book self-published already, and I have a fantasy novel that I am self-publishing in the next month. I have won awards for poems, short stories, and chapters of novels. I finished my first full-length novel at the age of eleven and have dreamed of being published ever since. This book, “Before It All,” will hopefully give me the jump-start I need to start off my long desired career of being a successful writer. I have been writing since I was in elementary school and am currently working on my Bachelor’s degree in English/creative writing. Again, thank you for considering my book.

Sincerely,
Elise Pehrson
