Sirens come blaring, but a man and his woman don't have time.
I look out the window and it's pouring outside. My heart is racing and the clock is ticking. My hands are bloodied and an alarm sounds far in the distance. A siren, round the corner of 23rd and towards my flat and I lock the door.

She has lust in her eyes and a warm hourglass body. I grab my coat and she coos me back to bed but I don't have time for this with the Freedom Fighters gunning down my street.

"Come back sweetie." She says. "I got something to show ya." She does her thing and I put on my boots. "Hey!" she says. "I'm taking a big risk by coming here. Show some respect."

I smirk. "Only for the dead."

Knocks rap at the door and the voices come on with their yelling and demanding and finger-pointing and the girl finally shuts up. Thank God. I grab her collar and pull her into the closet. We hide for a while.

They bust it down and into the room like rats they pour in with their magnifying glasses and shutter-stoppers. We crouch. Her body is still warm against mine. They find him on the floor with a knife in his back. It glimmers in the evening rain. They beat against the closet door and it's all about to happen.

I wink to her. "Like flies." I say. Then I kick down the door and into the room I go, grab my knife and a swipe here and there and a bang bang with the powder gun and I'm the only one still standing.

I beckon to the girl and she grabs my hand and off we go, catch a train to who knows where God knows what, chase new life at anywhere.
