A dark poem about wanting the chance to forgive someone from my past that has changed.

Somebody I don’t Know
Where did you go
Will you ever come back
Will you ever find a way
To return from your grave
Facing me just to say
I love you child of life
Both yours and mine
Will you further add
The appropriate apologies
Ones that are
So desperately required
Or like before
Like forever more
Will you turn and walk away
Never again looking upon
All that you’ve left behind
Stranger imprisoned in time
Me, very much alive
You, as dead as death defines
How can this be
Why is it that you seem
So distant across every scream
And every desperate plea
Somebody I don’t know
It never had to be like this
There was always a better way
A chance at normalcy
In our world of abundant chaos
I believed in you for a time
Born of such gullibility
I would have done anything
Why didn’t you do the same
Why do you continue not to
Just face me once again
That is all that I’ll ever need
Forgiveness will be decreed
An infinite amount of hope
I will certainly bleed
Easily such forgiveness
Will be yours to take
All of this will be true
All of this will be for you
Of course
As long as such an impossible
Condition can somehow be met
Somebody that I don’t know
Where did you go
Will you ever return
Will you ever find a way
Back to all that was betrayed…
