The taste of defeat can be horrible, awful and atrocious, but it can also be so much more.
         There’s nothing like tasting defeat,
Feeling outnumbered,
Unwanted,
Unneeded,
Unnecessary,
Useless.

That feeling sticks around for a while,
Reminding you.
Reminding you that you shouldn't pursue dreams.
Reminding you that you should stop trying to get there –
Reminding you that your future doesn't matter.
Reminding you that you aren't needed here.

         Your heart and confidence fall.
It’s not worth it.
I’ll never achieve my dreams.
I’m making a fool of myself trying to get there.
I’m not going to be somebody important.
Why bother trying?

Then your body bubbles with resentment.
You think about the unfairness then think defiantly.
Why can't I have my dreams?
Why can't I achieve what I want?
Why can't my future mean something?
Why can't I be needed here?

         Then that resentment changes, shifts
From anger to motivation.
I will chase my dreams
I will achieve everything I want.
I will have a bright and successful future.
I will be important.
I will prove you all wrong.

Every once in a while, tasting defeat
It is the push we need
To get us inspired
To get us motivated
To make us remember the passion we have
To make us try harder.

Oh, there's nothing as inspiring as tasting defeat.
