Trevor cheated on Ski and she found out. Will she forgive him?
“Please, Ski,” I was begging. I was stupid, I screwed up. I really did love, but for some reason it was so hard to stay true to her. For some reason I couldn’t just be with her.
“Don’t make me do this, Trevor,” she whispered, not looking at me. I saw her crying and I felt myself split in two. The part of me that wanted to wrap my arms around her and kiss away her tears, the part that was in love. And then the part that wanted to flee the room and go hook up with some girl at a bar. Is that how love works? Is that how it was supposed to be?
“I am so sorry, you gotta believe me!” I told her, looking down at her red hair. So beautiful in the sun, where it shimmered like fire.
“I do believe that you’re sorry. I just think it’s because you got caught,” she answered.
“No, Ski! Not-“
“You wouldn’t have kept doing it if I hadn’t caught you?” Ski snapped, still not looking at me. I didn’t answer and she nodded once. When she spoke, her voice was tight with tears. “That’s what I thought.”
“Ski, I love you!” I told her fiercely. “I know its love. When I see you my heart stops, and if I don’t see you then I feel…incomplete. You are part of me.” I got a suddenly scary thought. “Don’t you love me?”
“Yes,” she answered, looking up at me. She had bright blue eyes, filled with tears. Suddenly I wasn’t split anymore. It made so much sense; I couldn’t believe I’d missed it before. I didn’t want anyone else. Until the end of the earth there would never be anyone like her. I wouldn’t want anyone but her till the day I died and past.
She was perfect. A super model could walk through the door and I wouldn’t notice. I really did love her, and it all made sense. Have you ever had that moment where you could see what the future could be like? I did. I saw us getting married, having beautiful kids that looked just like her, growing old together. I saw holding her in my arms right now and whispering ‘forever’ in her ear.
“I do love you,” she said quietly.
“Then can’t you give me one more chance?” I whispered. I took her hand and twined my fingers through hers. A perfect match, like we were made for each other. I looked in her eyes and saw the same thing. She was seeing what we could be, what we should be. I reached over and tucked a lock of flaming hair behind her ear. She stared at me and kissed my cheek.
“No,” she whispered, turning and running away, tearing her hand from mine. No, she’d said. She’d said no. The future shattered in front of my eyes, a dream forever lost.
“But…”
After that, there was nothing left to say.
