this is the beginning of a short story in sets of poems.
She turned back in disbelief
Nothing but the cold dark road envelopes her
This isn’t happening, this isn’t happening,
She moans softly to herself.

Begrudgingly, she opens her overstuffed trunk.
Gas can, gas can , gas can
No sign of red relief.

Wide eyed, she trods to her car door
Sits inside and stares at the blank space through stars.

Stranded on Route 66 , God must be laughing.
3.am and no one within earshot or phone shot or give a damn shot to reach out to .
The undeniable drawback to a clean slate.
White lipped..she contemplates.
