Autumn days coming to an end and how nature is affected.

                                    Autumn Ending.

Ebony crows caw and tumble, through a blustery October sky.
A weak Autumn sun escapes the storm clouds to illuminate the fiery garb of trees and hedgerow. Ruby, copper, emerald and gold, swirl and flutter and escape their hosts, as gusts tug them loose, to fall to the cooling ground beneath.

Wood mice, with radar ears, feast on a banquet of seeds and the remnants of September’s blackberries.
Fine whiskers shimmer, as little paws grasp their bounty, with dark, almond eyes, ever watchful for sharp talons and a razor beak, hovering high above.

The season’s last butterfly, with battered, ragged wings, takes nourishment from dying ivy flowers, knowing that it’s caterpillar children are suspended in chrysalis shells, awaiting a brand new life.

The light fades – the sun dies . . . . . . . and Winter days begin.
