I couldn't believe it either.
Waking up dead is not the most pleasant experience, nor is it highly recommended. I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but I really don't care. When the only thing on your mind is the fact that you woke up dead, details such as what came before seem far less important. I mean would you be able to focus if you just woke up dead? I hope not, but if so you are a far more impressive person than I am.
I imagine waking up dead is an oxymoron to you, but that's probably just because you don't understand what I mean by waking up dead. It's not as if I was actually dead, because then how would I be able to wake up? I most certainly wasn't alive either, and is seems that if you are not alive you are dead and being either excludes the other and life and death are all inclusive. That's not true, at least not entirely.
So I was dead. And I was awake.
It was a simple as that. I wasn't breathing, my heart wasn't beating. Nothing was functioning, but some small corner of my mind which gazed out upon the world was decidedly awake. I've heard many time about how powerful your brain is supposed to be, but this was interesting. Was it through sheer power of will and thought that I managed to still be awake?
And since I had awoken, not previously being conscious, how was there a part of mind that was able to decide that I should be awake? Now this is all as much of a mystery to me as it is to you. Was a mystery.
Then I realized I was hungry.
                     And I feasted.
