Happens So Fast

As I sat below a tree, I saw
a young girl pedal toward me-
her skirt rising and falling
with her knees.
She'll go on and never know
how I dreamed of her innocence.

The fruit below the tree
lay rotten-
the fruit it held, not yet ripe.
I dreamt of catching one
on the way down-
but it happens so fast.
