A poem I wrote at a local writing group using the prompt, "If You".
If you visit the beach on a late afternoon, will you notice the sinking star? It combines with the sea, yet tries to stand out, as it emits its pink rays, trying to push through a wall of dark clouds.

If you trot along a nature trail, in the middle of October, what are your thoughts?
Breathe in the cool, crisp air and admire the orange-leaved maples. They are not dying, but shedding their leaves for the next year, where they sprout like a phoenix, reborn.

If you slouch through life, dwelling on the negative, then what did you accomplish? A mind that's at peace with its inner demons reveals an abundance of joy and wonder that remains on this planet, in this universe. Explore and absorb its glory, then witness the transformation of a stale mind, renewed.

If we changed our mindsets and thrived on optimism, depression would vanish and our souls would resurrect, to once again feel fresh, regaining the heart of a child.
